Robert Bob E. Rowan

Savannah--Robert E. Bob Rowan, 76, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Memorial Health University Medical Center after a short illness.
He was raised in Port Wentworth, GA and graduated from Savannah High School. He attended Armstrong Junior College, Clemson University and The Citadel before beginning work at National Gypsum Company. He later continued college in the evenings and graduated from Armstrong State College now Armstrong Atlantic State University.
He retired from National Gypsum Company in 1997 after 43 years of service; beginning as a Lab Clerk, he was promoted to Quality Supervisor and then Production Superintendent in Savannah. He was promoted to Plant Manager in Richmond, CA, to a larger plant in Westwego, LA, and back to the still larger plant in Savannah in 1987.
Bob was a born again Christian and an active member of Bull Street Baptist Church. He served many years as a Deacon and at various times as Chairman of the Board of Deacons, Chairman of the Deacon's Prayer Group, Sunday School Teacher and in other capacities.
He enjoyed fishing, boating and working in his yard.
He was predeceased by his mother and stepfather, Eudine and Vernon Sigler of Port Wentworth.
Bob was a wonderful, loving husband and father. He is survived by his wife of almost 43 years, Betty Rogers Rowan; two daughters: Rebecca Rowan of Savannah and Elizabeth Koobs of Woodland, CA; two sons: Robert Rowan, Jr., of Savannah and James J. Lynn Rowan of Reidsville, GA; three grandsons: Alex, Jackson and Nathan Koobs of Woodland, CA; one sister: Jane Nichols of Bluffton, SC.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 8th from 5 pm to 8 pm at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors,
Islands Chapel.
Funeral Service will be Friday, May 9th at 11:00 am at Bull Street Baptist Church with burial at Bonaventure Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James Berry, Kip Gardner, John Leak, Michael Porter, Trey Smiley and John Wiseman. The Deacons of Bull Street Baptist Church and members of the Ralph Thomas Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
